Sandra Biskupski-Mujanovic

(Ph.D., Western)

  • Dr. Sandra Biskupski-Mujanovic is a postdoctoral research fellow in the University of Waterloo Political Science Department and the Balsillie School of International Affairs. She holds a PhD in Gender Studies with a specialization in Transitional Justice and Post-Conflict Reconstruction from Western University. She does feminist work on security, militarization, and gender inequality. Her current research project is on men’s perspectives on achieving gender equality in the Canadian Armed Forces. 

Clare Helene McKendry

(MA, Guelph)

  • Clare McKendry is a research assistant on the Gender and National Security project. She is also a Ph.D. Political Science Candidate at the University of Waterloo studying the South China Sea disputes.

Mohamed Elgayar

(MA, Dalhousie)

  • Mohamed Elgayar is a Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Waterloo, studying the motivations and recruitment strategies of religiously motivated violent extremist groups with a focus on the Middle East.

Nico Saunders

  • Nico Saunders is a Ph.D. Candidate and Doctoral Fellow at the Balsillie School of International Affairs, through the University of Waterloo. Her research explores the impact of UNESCO on urban security governance of World Heritage Cities, with particular focus on policy mainstreaming and urban militarization. This research also examines the aesthetic paradox of countering terrorism and advocates for city planners and policy professionals to consider the ‘aesthetic turn’ in securitization as a means of enhancing resiliency, community wellbeing, and incorporating regionalized ‘everyday’ experiences.

Ananya Vohra

(BA, Honours, Alberta)

  • Ananya Vohra is a research assistant on the Gender and National Security Project and an MA Global Governance student at the Balsillie School of International Affairs. Her research explores how Canada’s Arctic defence policy can better incorporate Indigenous and feminist perspectives on security. 

Lilla Eperjesi

(BA, Honours, Guelph)

  • Lilla Eperjesi is a Master’s student at the Balsillie School of International Affairs and a research assistant on the Gender and National Security Project. Her research examines Japan’s national defense policies through a feminist lens.
